Write a convoluted exhibition title for Alexander Reben’s show in the basement of the Charlie James Gallery

The exhibition brought together works made through exchanges between Alexander Reben, artificial intelligence, fabrication systems, and exhibition visitors. Metal sculpture, woven images, mechanical displays, and a speaking dental phantom gave these exchanges physical form. Humor and experimentation connected the different processes.

A large aluminum relief explored the passage from natural language to sculpture. Reben worked iteratively with AI to develop software that generates three-dimensional models, then selected a design for Machina Labs' robotic metal-forming machines. Two robots move in opposition to balance the forces needed to shape the sheet metal.

Other works unfold over time. Visitors speak imagined artworks into a microphone, choose between generated images, and add their selections to a collective image that grows with each participant. In a separate installation, four split-flap displays present stages of an AI-generated artwork description while a monitor shows the resulting image. Woven works pass through further sequences of description, image generation, fabrication, and machine interpretation.

AI-generated critical texts also form part of the exhibition. The catalogue opens with a deliberately discouraging review credited to ChatGPT, whose exaggerated artspeak turns the system's commentary on art into another object of attention. These texts bring the exhibition's questions about authorship, interpretation, and human-machine exchange into its own presentation.
