Deeply Artificial Trees

Video from Bob Ross's The Joy of Painting passes through the Deep Dream AI system, which amplifies patterns of shapes in the footage. The familiar painting demonstrations become a stream of transformed images.

A second AI learns sounds from the television show and reproduces them without their original structure. The processed footage and reconstructed sounds are then edited together into a video.

The video was shown in BASILISK at Nicodim Gallery in Los Angeles in 2017. The artist notes that the work is not endorsed, supported, or recommended by Bob Ross Inc.
