About the series

Thought Renders begins with an adjective–noun phrase generated by a computer. The artist thinks about that phrase while sensors record his brainwaves and physiological responses. Those signals seed a fractal image, and images associated with the phrase supply its color palette.

The system then presents alternative renderings and uses the artist’s measured responses to select a preferred result. The final image is prepared for printing, making the work a collaboration between the artist’s imagination and a computational selection process.
