amalGAN
A series of paintings combining AI-generated images, bodily intuition, and human painting.
An AI combines words to produce images, then generates variations by combining them with other images. A second system presents these variations to the artist and reads his brainwaves and physiological signals to identify preferred results. This cycle continues until the system selects an image.
Another AI increases the image resolution. Reproduction painters translate the selected image onto canvas, and a further system examines it to create a title. The process connects machine generation, the artist’s responses, and the labor of human painters.
The series credits BigGAN, Joel Simon’s Ganbreeder, and the Ganbreeder community. Some starting images and parameters came from that collaborative community.
