two Mylar balloons: attracted and repelled
Two silver balloons repeatedly attract and repel each other through an exchange of electrical charge.
About the work
Two 18-inch silver Mylar balloons float seven feet above the floor, approximately 20–24 inches apart. One is connected to a Van de Graaff generator and the other is grounded.
The balloons move together until they touch, then separate before the cycle begins again. The work was shown at Volta Art Fair in New York in 2014.
