All Prior Art draws text from issued and published United States patent documents and recombines it into new descriptions of inventions. The resulting ideas are published online.
The project proposes mass publication as a way to challenge the patent system and the activities of patent trolls. Reben describes the approach as an attempt to democratize ideas; many of the generated inventions are nonsensical.
