dark era’s light
Sixty-two chained electrical timers postpone the lighting of a bulb to a cosmic timescale.
About the work
Sixty-two electrical timers are plugged into one another in a chain that leads from an outlet to a trouble light. Reben calculates the delay before the bulb lights as approximately 48^61 days, or 0.98 googol years, placing the event in the universe’s “dark era.”
The installation was shown in the Special Project Space at Volta Art Fair in New York in 2014.
